 Bruce Holst has enjoyed studying plants for over 40 years and has participated in more than 25 international plant research and collecting expeditions. He is interested in plant diversity and distribution in the American Tropics, particularly that of the Bromeliaceae and Myrtaceae families.  He has been a BSI Director for the Southeastern Region and formerly edited the Journal of the Bromeliad Society. He is currently working on projects related to the floras of Belize, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Florida, and the conservation of bromeliads and other native species in Florida.
